SPALDING WARGAMING CLUB
a lively romp, with jolly and occasionally saucy (or sexually objectifying, depending on your tastes) art and a short runtime I came across TAVERN MASTERS on Kickstarter and thought it would go down well with the Youth Club but it seems to have a lease of life with that adults too, thanks to Oliver's enthusiastic patronage.

It's got a great premise: you run a fantasy pub and this involves getting in food and drink and recruiting staff to attract lucrative customers, from farmers and city guards to sorcerers and elven rangers.
It's a basic resource-economy game, really. You spend your gold to get goods and staff into your pub, then use them to attract customers, who have 'wants' (which allow you to play them if you provide that service) and 'likes' (which mean they stay on the table rather than being discarded at the end of your turn).
At the end of the turn, you get gold for each customer you played (plus bonuses for certain combinations) and you use that next turn to improve your establishment.
The main strategic decision is when to shift gear, stopping spending on improvements so that you can start earning from a regular clientele and shoot past the 20 gold mark and win.
The base game is a together-alone race, but the DIRTY DEEDS expansion allows a bit of 'take that!' interplay, sabotaging each other's pubs, poaching customers and staff and retrieving discards.
TAVERN MASTERS is a lively romp, with jolly and occasionally saucy (or sexually objectifying, depending on your tastes) art and a short runtime that stops it overstaying. It's a great icebreaker and involves a few strategic decisions. There should be a DOCKSIDE EXPANSION along in due course, so let's see what that adds.
