We're getting ever closer to Blood Bowl League Week 2 and there's some huge games to look forward to. With the Warpstone Wanderers looking to restore some pride after a tough opening day fixture against the Dwarven Donkey Punch, let's look back to the first big upset of the Leagues opening round of fixtures. It was perfect Blood Bowl weather as the Warpstone Wanderers took the field. One of the bookies’ favourites, they strutted out with an air of confidence matched by their Head Coach, Karl Micheal. The Donkey Punch first eleven were looking to improve on an inspiring pre-season and boy they did just that. Let's take you to the action It's early in the first half and the Donkeys are ripping through the Wanderers. One of the poor Skaven outright died attempting a block against a wall of Dwarven armour. The Blue Beards are culling the Warpstones. Looks like a pest extermination out there. The Dwarves were mere inches from the Scoring Zone but stood and waited until almost half time so their brutal linemen could inflict more damage. With only 6 players left on the pitch, the Warpstones are looking weary but Karl is screaming at them from the touchline. The second half saw a miracle comeback begin as the Warpstone Wanderers drew level, but so many players just couldn't get out of the KO box. It's Blood Bowl at its most brutal and the fans are going wild. Game ended 1-1 and I caught up with the respective coaches. Karl McMichael of the Warpstone Wanderers..... Where did it all go wrong? Well I'm proud of the boys for pulling one back but, overall it just wasn't our day. Armour failed us and the rats couldn't hit a block without being stretchered off. Alec Bell of the Dwarven Donkey Punch was over the moon with an upset draw on the opening day of the season but chose only a few words: Rats are squishy. Can the Wanderers fight back in week 2? Can the Dwarves keep the momentum going? It’s early in the season and the busiest part of the stadium is the physio room. But this wasn't the only upset on the opening round of matches. In a truly astonishing result, the Kannon Fodderz BBFC became the first goblins to win anything, ever, when they took to the field and defeated the Nurgle-worshipping Rotten Scoundrels by an almighty margin of 1-0. I had the pleasure of interviewing the winning coach, Ian Davison. It was... uncomfortable So, Ian. How did you feel that went? [Ian looks at the camera and let's out moans only a goblin would equate to pleasurable] A truly horrific interview. Over to the final game of the evening and the Fancy Dandies pranced into the scoring zone twice to bring home a 2-0 win. Defeated Coach Rob is yet to name his team and sadly they didn't complete a single pass all game. This game will forever be known as the most fumbles ever recorded. A title any coach would be proud of.

Without further ado here are the efforts so far from January. This month I have focused exclusively on Idoneth Deepkin and have even joined a local Path to Glory campaign. The campaign is an ideal platform for collecting a new force with a real sense of escalation of arms. Painting & Modelling At the back end of 2018 we had a couple of special birthdays, my own and the other you can guess. I amassed a bevy of new models to get to work on: an Ahkelian King (sea horse), 3 Ahkelian Morsarr Guard (eels), 10 Namarti Thralls (soulless aelves), Isharann Soul Render (aelf lantern fish), an Akhelian Allopex (SHARK!) and a gloomtide shipwreck (need a bigger boat). Here are some of the WIP shots of where I am at: Here we have the finished Morsarr Guard who were a joy to paint and new challenge with many glazes applied to get the Moray eel effect I wanted Next... Not finished yet but in a lovely place. It was only after starting that I realised there was a Nemo plushy in my office and that’s probably why I chose to go fighting fish colours on this model. I also had time to get some paint on my thralls and ship-wreck but they are from finished. The Big Game ,Finally gaming wise, I played my first game with them Saturday past and it was a blast. It was a double first: first Path to Glory and first game with the deepkin. We played the 4 player battleplan Trial of Champions. The opposing forces were Stormcast Eternals Maggotkin of Nurgle The brand new Gloomspite Gitz Arrayed against my force of Deepkin The game turned bloody very quickly with my deepkin wiping out all the plaguebearers in the early goings Turn 2 The great unclean proved to be a menace in this small game and dominated the board throughout. Eventually, after defeating all bar one unit of Stormcast, he turned his malefic gaze on the gitz, almost wiping them out With that done, the nurgle forces summoned another 15 plaguebearers. Fortunately, my Morsarr & King were close at hand. The King and the Morsarr made short work of newly corporeal daemons and ensured an Idoneth victory, huzzah! I received for my victory no less than 4 glory points and recruited the Soul Render to resurrect fallen Namarti in my next game. Up Next Hopefully I’ll get in another game of Path to Glory (or two) over the course of this month and report back on it. I’m also going to continue painting the king, namarti & the Soul Render alongside my newly gifted Australians. Till next month
